There is no denying the power of a clear and focused mind. Many meditation techniques, TM for example, are based upon focusing upon a single mantra to clear the mind and enter a new state of consciousness. This often results in profound effects on people easily and quickly. I am not promoting TM or suggesting you go and pay a large amounts of money for a mantra, my point is that your mind, if used to become focused on one thing, one eternal point, can bring enormous power into your life.
What is this power and how can we use it in our practical life?
Spiritual power is subtle power. It is not the same as the power to influence others. It is the silent experience of grace flowing into our lives, it is the presence of eternity. Pure spirituality means the experience of peace, purity, love, bliss, happiness, wonder – these are the real treasures of the true wealth of the soul. Without this, life is dry and meaningless.
The mind, plagued with the distractions of the ego, is of no use to us. Its job is to suppress our natural happiness by offering a lesser form of happiness – a promise for the future. The ego makes us promises that tomorrow will be better than today. It puts off our natural state of being for the fulfillment of what is yet to come…but, never actually satisfies the need of the soul. The ego can promise very well, but it can’t deliver the goods into the now. It constantly falls short and makes more promises for the future.
Look around you. Why are most people rushing around doing, doing, doing? They are like a donkey with a carrot running after a little something that is nearly theirs, but not quite; anxious and desperate.
The mind is preoccupied with this miserable illusion and so has no time to allow the ‘juice’ of life to enter into the heart, mind and soul.
How can this be changed? How can we let go of the donkey mentality and re-experience our own eternal truth and fullness?
First, we must quiet the mind to hear the sound of sweet silence. This is the silence that is alive between our thoughts. This is the natural state of the Self, the silence of peace and supreme love.
To do this, the express way, is to do a meaningful mantra based on eternal truth. Not any old thought – but a thought in your mother tongue that has real truth behind it and is comprehended by your subconscious mind. Random sanskrit mantras from the vedas are not the same thing.
By taking a meaningful, comprehendable mantra, there are a number of direct benefits:
1. Your mind cannot have wasteful, pointless, negative thoughts from the ego.
2. You can express the silence between thoughts as the mind becomes soft.
3. The meaning and power of the words themselves become apparent and begin to glow into focus as an actual reality.
4. The emotional body and physical body respond and create good feelings and natural bliss chemicals.
5. The conscious mind is purified and the subconscious mind is impressed with eternal truth effecting your future.
If you can understand the awesome power of what is being said here – then take this opportunity to master your mind as your NUMBER 1 priority in your life. In the Gita (Chapter 6, Verse 6) it says, ‘For the one who has controlled the mind, it is the best of friends, but for the one who has failed to do so, it remains the greatest enemy.’
If you see the magnitude and potential for your life by doing this, then create a timetable for your mind – have special mantras that are cleansing and empowering for your being – all day, every day…
You are thinking anyway, why not make it useful rather than sabotaging your life?
Just as you have a timetable for your actions, what will be happening in your mind throughout the day? Work it out – create a schedule and take full responsibility and full advantage of this unlimited resource that has been hijacked by the ego. Do this from now on and see the practical result in your own life.
Here are some mantras that I use:
Originally and eternally, I am a pure soul.
I am a soul, I am a soul and there is nothing that I , the soul, would need to remember.
I am the embodiment of power.
I am complete purity.
